Equality and diversity support for carers

Equality brings quality for everyone and the creation of a fairer society where everyone can participate and achieve their potential.

Equality is not about treating everyone the same; equality is about valuing a person 'as an equal' regardless of their characteristics and treating people according to their needs in order to achieve an equal or fair outcome.

An equal society values human diversity, recognising that diversity brings a range of skills, knowledge, values, styles, perspectives and ideas that secure Plymouth's future as a place where people want to live, work and prosper, and challenges the inequalities that destroy this diversity in our society and organisations. Carers live in EVERY community, and are in themselves a disadvantaged, marginalised group, with their caring role affecting them emotionally, financially and practically, including their mental and physical health. So we see carers as a priority, disadvantaged group.

• Organisations supporting Mind The Gap - the Mind The Gap programme was developed to deliver the NHS Long-Term Plan Commitment to improve identification and support of carers from communities less likely to use and/or have positive experiences of services. NHSEI funded a joint bid between Plymouth and Torbay focusing on migrant, refugee and asylum seekers and ethnic minority communities communities.
